BroadwayCon Relaunch
Following the Covid-19 Pandemic, BroadwayCon was facing the collision of three core issues - a fear and reluctance from consumers to engage with in-person experiences, a massive decline in Broadway participation by Gen Z and Gen Alpha, and a lack of clarity on safety and health protocols for the New York entertainment industry.
I decided that the only way we were going to return to force was to do so in style - and with mindful intentionality. I planned BroadwayCon on three pillars - “bring the glitz back”, “build a larger tent”, and “be honest”.
To “bring the glitz back”, I focused on both the storied shows of yesteryear (RENT, SIX, Cabaret) as well as shows that were poised to explode on the scene (Kimberly Akimbo, Back to the Future, A Strange Loop). As we built out the presence of shows and panels, I also focused heavily on bridging the theatre experience from traditional to modern, investing heavily in inclusive panels and bringing more LGBTQIA2S+ talent into the spotlight. Finally, I made it clear that BroadwayCon understood that the Pandemic wasn’t over - and integrated health and safety protocols across performers, attendees, and staff, working to ensure safety.
The result? 56% increase in ticket sales, 10M+ growth in ARR, and coverage in The New York Times, Playbill, Variety, and CBS.
